The Supreme Chess Trust (IT 3705/09) trading as Moves for Life (MFL) is an initiative that uses chess as an educational tool, through its positive values and outcomes to address the personal development of people.
MFL is passionate about education and we believe that education is critical to any kind of development.
Our programme typically improves maths, science, problem-solving, language skills and human development, as per the International STEAM principles, to address 21st Century requirements.
The aim of the Moves for Life programme is to enable and develop individuals to become exemplary citizens, to be equipped for the challenges of the work place, add value and contribute towards the good of their communities in general.
MFL has three different initiatives impacting people of any age and background:
1. MFL Learning Centres
This programme is aimed at impacting the entire school sector through the following:
Gr. RR – 3 Early Childhood Development (ECD)
Implementation of chess as an educational intervention to improve especially maths, science, problem-solving and language development in children, as per the International STEAM principles to address 21st Century skills.
Gr. 4 – 7 Preparation for employability & development of chess as a sport
Structured chess education, where chess principles are intentionally incorporated to develop life skills essential to future employability.
Gr.8 – 12 Chess & business development skills
The game of chess teaches business and life skills crucial to early business development and entrepreneurship, including reasoning, visualization and problem solving.
We have since partnered with academic institutions that continually conduct a research in terms of how this educational tool impacts on the improvement of the learners’ academic performance. The evidence is becoming so visible that learners who are participating in our MasterMoves Kids program show improvement in their mathematical as well as self-confidence, better communication and risk-taking (positive written feedback from schools currently participating in the program).

2. Holiday School Programmes
Running between 2 – 5 days, children are equipped with essential life skills along with academic competencies, especially with the focus on remedial learners.
This initiative also impacts the community as part of its sustainability.

3. Adult Training Projects
A Training and recreational project for Adults (both in the school and corporate sectors), equipping them with life skills for the challenges in the work place.
Conducted by a Life Coach and Change Activator, the training session addresses the following aspects (amongst others):
